Roman VillaSituated at the area Katovigli in Makrygialos, this 3 acres villa is one of the greatest archaeological finds in Eastern Crete.

The ruins date from the 2nd century B.C until the 4th century A.D.

The villa appears to be fully equipped with all the luxurious installations that were so much loved by the Romans, such as baths, an open swimming-pool, mosaic flooring etc. It was lived in for roughly 5 centuries until a disaster ruined it and destroyed its rich decor.

(From the book ‘Sitia’, 1981 by the archaeologist N. Papadakis)
